Healing Spring Baptist Church was founded in September 1932 and located at 4721 1st Avenue South in East Avondale, a location that is now no longer residential, but given wholly to industrial uses. The congregation relocated to the present site in September 1976. The building had been erected in the early 1960s by the Woodlawn congregation of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) which had met on this site since the late 1940s. The first church on the site was Woodlawn United Methodist Church. It was located here before moving to First Avenue North.
