Sept. 14, 7:30 p.m., Chapman 322 in person or livestream on zoom, Discussion of An Obituary for “Wisdom Literature”, Dr. Kynes discusses his book along with responses from Dr. Tremper Longman (Westmont College) and Dr. Dominick Hernandez (Biola University).

Sept. 23-25, St. George Melkite Greek Catholic Church, Middle Eastern Food Festival. Typically includes great food (menu on-line, church tours, exhibits, and dancing). This is a popular community event.

Sept. 24, 2-4 p.m., Brock Forum (DBH 131), Samford University, Christianity, Education and Evolution. A public event hosted by Samford’s Center for Science and Religion and supported by the John Templeton Foundation.

Sept. 24, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Hodges Chapel, Choral Vespers, Join Samford’s A Cappella Choir for an inspiring service of the word, prayer, and beautiful songs of praise. Rev. Jody Baker, minister of music and administration at Hope Community Church (Baptist) will speak. Convo credit is available for students.

Sept. 24, 6 p.m. Stockham Park. Soil Collection honoring lynching victim George Taylor. Twenty-nine year-old George Taylor was shot to death at this site on August 23, 1934 in a racial terror lynching. The Jefferson County Memorial Project will collect soil from this site in this ceremony. This is part of the Equal Justice Initiative’s Community Soil Collection Project which memorializes lynching victims by collecting soil from the spots where they died. Stockham Park is located at 4221 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr Boulevard, Birmingham, AL 35212.

Sept. 24, 8 p.m. “Memorial” by Quinton Cockrell, a table read of a play that examines the scourge of lynching in Jefferson County, Alabama. Part of the Human Rights New Works Festival at Red Mountain Theatre. Admission $10. 1600 3rd Ave. S. Birmingham, AL 35233

Oct. 14-16, 10:30 a.m.- 9:30 p.m., Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Birmingham Greek Festival, Become Greek for the weekend at the 48th Annual Greek Food Festival set for October 14-16, 2021 from 10:30am-9:30pm. The Greek Festival, is Birmingham’s oldest and most anticipated cultural event that offers an abundance of delicious Greek cuisine. The festival has been an act of love from Birmingham’s Greek community to the city going back four generations. Enjoy delicious Greek cuisine prepared by the parishioners of the community and served by them during the Greek Food Festival weekend.
