Jackson Street Baptist Church is the oldest church in the historically African American South Woodlawn neighborhood. It is located at 230 63rd Street South. A detailed history is on its website. While the cornerstone gives an organization date of 1888, the church’s history traces its origin back nineteen years further to an 1869 exodus of formerly enslaved persons from Ruhama Baptist Church.
