Key to map of churches & cornerstones

In April 2024, I updated the Google map that accompanies the scores of posts of I’ve made of Birmingham, Alabama, churches and their cornerstones.

Light blue markers — no names: just date or date and church name.
Dark blue markers — there is a scripture verse or other dedicatory phrase but no individual’s name
Olive markers — scripture or dedicatory phrase and at most one person’s name (per stone)
Orange markers — just one person’s name (usually the pastor or architect).
Red markers — multiple individuals’ names on the stone or stones.
Yellow marker — scripture verse or other phrase and multiple names
Light gray marker — stone has been removed (or is missing from a place for it) (and replaced with a blank stone or no stone).
Medium gray maker — no stone (there are many such churches, but only a few are included here).

Regular place markers — one stone (but often with 2 inscribed faces)
Square in circle — more than one stone from the same congregation (for any reason, including stones from previous buildings, and multiple buildings with stones on site)
Diamond in circle — stones from more than one congregation (usually the building’s original builder and a later occupant)
