Birmingham Churches and their Cornerstones 122

New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church has an impressive hilltop site at 6632 Kentucky Avenue in Birmingham over looking Gate City. Here is the view off the church’s front porch looking toward south and slightly to the east.

There are two stones. One from its previous building which was located in East Birmingham at 1305 Sipsey Street, a location now incorporated into W. C. Patton Park. Thus, it was near several other churches in this series, Laymen’s Chapel C.M.E. Church, St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church, and the former site of Forty-Sixth Street Baptist Church, which like New Bethel moved in the early 1990s. Whereas Forty-Sixth Street moved into the building erected for East Lake Alliance Church, this building that became New Bethel was erected for East Lake Primitive Baptist Church.
