Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Ensley

Birmingham Churches and Their Cornerstones 109

Many Birmingham churches have multiple cornerstones marking different buildings, additions, or remodeling. But Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church is unique for having stones placed under the leadership of pastors who were fathers and son. The church sits a block off of Tuxedo Junction in Ensley at 1800 19th Street Ensley.

The first stone was placed in 1972 after a remodeling of the church when Erskine Faush was pastor. The second stone was placed in 2023 when the church was rededicated after a Christmas 2018 fire. At this time the pastor was Chuck Faush (Erskine R. Faush, Jr.). While the first stone indicates the church was organized in 1906, the date the building was erected is not recorded on the stones.

The color and shape of the location markers indicate the character of the cornerstones at each site. Stones like these, with multiple names, are represented by red markers. When, as here, there are multiple stones, the marker includes a square. Click here for full information on the markers.
