Birmingham Churches and Their Cornerstones 106
Zion Spring Baptist Church was founded in Birmingham’s North Avondale neighborhood in 1927. It built its current structure in 1948 and later faced it with brick. The church suffered a signficant fire in 2001, but later repaired and recovered from it. Since 2001 the church has been served by Pastor Adam Mixon, a graduate of my department at Samford University.

The building is also the home of an Episcopal congregation, the Abbey, about which my students have written for Magic City Religion. One of my students also wrote an essay about Zion Spring for that website.
