Birmingham Churches and Their Cornerstones 54

Rising Star Baptist Church is located near historic Rickwood Field at 1320 2nd Avenue West in Birmingham. Its neighborhood, Rising-West Princeton, takes its name in part from the church. Whereas the past several posts in this series of cornerstones are of White churches that do not have individuals’ names on the cornerstone, Rising Star follows the convention of many Black churches in Birmingham and lists many indvidiuals on its stone. Also like many of these churches, the stone was added to the building after it was completed. Interestingly, the stone left room for the end date of the pastor’s service to be supplied, but that never was.
