Thirty-Seventh Street Baptist Church

Birmingham Churches and Their Cornerstones 48

37th Street Baptist Church is located in Birmingham’s Kingston neighborhood on a street with many now vacant lots and some pre-World War II houses. It was erected in 1970 when W. E. Thedford was pastor. On the opposite side of the street and on the corner is Zion Star Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God. That Pentecostal church was one of the first that my students examined for our digital humanities project Magic City Religion.
