Birmingham Churches and Their Cornerstones 31
This Colonial Revival church building sits near the intersection of Pearson Avenue and Tuscaloosa Avenue, an intersection known as Berney Points. Erected as Berney Points Baptist Church, since March 1993, it has been the home of Bethel Baptist Church. The congregation was founded in 1886 and the pastor at that time was Rev. Dr. William H. Geason.
Berney Points Baptist erected a new building atop Shades Mountain near the Alford Avenue interchange on I-65, but by 2018, it had closed and the building became the home of Christ the King Anglican Church.

As is common on African American churches in Birmingham, this cornersone includes many names. The original cornerstone of the builidng just contained the year of erection and the statement “Erected to the Glory of God.” Such short inscriptions are common on White churches. (The original inscription may be viewed in the digital archive of the Birmingham Public Library here.) Read this first post for more on this series on Birmingham churches and their cornerstones.
